can anyone recommend a good piercer?

Specifically a nostril piercer? Preferably in Funkytown? Let me know of your experiences with nostril piercings 'cause I'm getting one! My hubby is just going to have to get over it because I got the balls to ask my boss today and she was like "oh, I don't care" (Clint doesn't want me to get one)

PS- some of the things he brings up are :

1.it will get infected because your ear cartilage got infected

2. you have allergies and your nose will be so irritated that you'll touch it all the time and it will get infected

3. so and so's wife got one and it got infected and now she has scar tissue

pink and gold bra and belt for sale

This is a hand made costume. Both bra and belt are lined. The bra will fit a 34C. The bra is very sturdy will hold it's shape well.
This costume will work great for new students, hobbyist, class recitals, parties photos and performances.
This is an original one of a kind costume. you may see photos on page one in my pics

The bra will fit a 34C. The bra cups are covered in a pink colored fabric with pink bugle beads sewn into the fabric. The bra is trimmed in a gold sequin gimp trim. The bra has beaded fringe made from pink seed beads that hangs about 4 3/4 inches long in groups of three .The neck straps are about 34 inches long and tie in a criss cross manner with D rings. The side panels are covered in a pink color velvet fabric(as well as the neck straps I would like to add) The side panels have D rings attach to the ends to add closure for the bra. The is bra is lined and very sturdy will hold it's shape.

The belt is cover in the same pink beaded fabric and gold trim as the bra cups. . The belt is one piece and is a tie front as if it were a hip sash . (has a bit more weight to it than a hip sash) The belt has an elastic casing in the back that can be gather to help with a better fit around the hips for a dancer with curves. The belt is 35 inches long. The belt will fit a small to medium . the belt can be sized down before I send it if you would like it smaller. The fringe is made from pink colored seed beads like on the bra and is about 5 3/4 inches long. Al Amir Lebanese Restaurant on Greenville is now offer FREE bellydance lessons...starting June 4th!

Join us at Al Amir Greenville on Wednesday nights starting June 4th for FREE bellydance lessons. Instruction will be provided by Yeli, Tamra Henna and Sa'diyya, all house dancers at Al Amir and dance instructors in the DFW area.

This is a great opportunity to bring a friend or relative out that is interested in bellydance but not ready to take the leap to classes yet. This is also a great night out for anyone with a little shimmy in their hips! We will offer 45 minute to 1 hour lessons that will change each week. We will start with the basics and see what happens! Since each week is something different so you can jump in at anytime. It's like a bellydance buffet!

Classes will begin at 8:30 in the club area of Al Amir and we will provide hip scarves for everyone until they are gone. Everyone will have the opportunity to practice what they have learned as we open up the dance floor to everyone while the DJ spins some great music.

After the classes, everyone is invited to stick around and enjoy a professional performance by one of our dancers.

No purchase is necessary to join the class or watch the performance but you may want to relax with a hookah in the club or try the Chicken Shwarma and the yummy hummus!

This week Yeli will be starting us off with lessons on June 4th at 8:30pm. The performance will actually take place BEFORE the class this time. Show time around 8pm. So come early for the performance and stay for the class!

I am working on a new article for NTMEDA members in Papyrus and I am trying to compile a list of "dancer remedies" to keep your body going.

For example:
* what is your remedy for sore muscles during or after a weekend workshop?
* What is your secret to getting rid of calloused feet?
* What do you pack in your bag or last minutes fixes?
* What do you snack on before a long show
* other ideas?

Responses here may be chosen to be printed in the next edition of Papyrus. I will include a photo of the dancer or musician and their website along with their response.

Dance Opportunity for Movie Premiere

Here's what he sent me:
Nari,
I'm in Dallas and need someone or group to perform for about 20-30 minutes.There is a stage in front of the movie theater screen.
It's for a movie premier screening.
I could not pay the people involved,BUT I would film their performance for my NEXT 4 feature-length films I am making.
It would be great exposure for them,I would give them credit in the film and DVD copies upon completion as well.
I would need them (as many as want to be a part of it) at about 7pm (since the movie starts oficially at 7:30).

Okay, I realize that this has nothing to do with anything dance related except no one wants to see me dance with watery eyes and snot. Does anyone have an allergist they can recommend in Dallas? My doctor has gone private (it's a long story) and I don't want to go to just anyone.

Ya Halla question

I haven't done Ya Halla in a couple of years.. am I crazy : my understanding is you can't seperate classes within a day? For example: If I want to take from Rachel Brice, I also have to take from Fahteim? If I want to take from Aziza, I have to also go to Angelika Nemeth?

I am not knocking these performers- but I really don't get this. I know that everyone will tell me how great they are and I don't doubt it- it's just that my pocketbook can't afford all this. I could understand if you had to payfor the whole day with the same instructor, but I don't understand the whole day with two totally different people. Especially Rachel Brice and Fahteim. How does that go together?

Am I crazy? Or is this the case?

***I am not saying anyone is bad- I just don't get this***

I am trying to put together a presentation dedicated to the diversity of dance and I need photos. I am looking for photos of dancers....all styles(not just ME dance styles ALL dance), genders, heights, weights, ethnicities, and ages. I am looking for the variety of photos too...action shots, posed shot, group shots, solo shots, rehearsal shots, preparation shots....etc.

Combos and Drum solo choreography class with Yeli

The Intermediate/ Advanced Combos and Choreography class with Yeli at the Dance Company in Arlington will start our next choreography next Wednesday (May 5th). The class is at 6:30 on Wednesdays. The 1st month of tuition at the Dance Company is FREE!!

Drum Solo is the dance of choice for this class.

If you were looking for a time to join us, now would be the time!

Learn a new and exciting drum solo choreography with Yeli! There will be an opportunity to perform in the community at the conclusion of the choreography.

The choreography portion of our class is expected to last 4-6 weeks. Then we are back to new weekly combos.

What was your first workshop experience like?

I am working on an article for Papyrus about workshop experiences and I am interested to know:
What was your first workshop with a big name ?
How new to the study of dance or the study of the music music where you at the time?
What made you take the workshop ?
What do you remember about the workshop?

For me:
My instructor hosted a workshop taught by Yasmina Ramzy of Canada. I was so lost in the crowd there! Yasmina has such a powerful style that I could not comprehend at the "baby dancer" age. I think I got a whole 30 seconds of the choreo down that whole day. She challenged me though and now I wish at my current level of training, that I could take from her again so I could be challenged but "get it" this time.

Just a teaser that we have a special guest dancer in from out of town tomorrow night at the NEW Al Amir location in Addison - 3558 Belt Line Road -

Wohoo! Kata Maya from Isis Studio won the Champion of Champions and the Junior Category at the Bellydancer of the Universe competition. I had the honor to dance with her at Isis' and , needless to say, not only is she wonderful dancer but a terrific person. I'm so proud of her!!! *sniff* Congratulations, KAT!

The drum solo is the highlight of any bellydance performance, a chance for the dancer to really show her stuff. Al Amir opens new location in Addison!

Hi all,

I'm pleased to announce that Al Amir is now in Addison! Now there are two locations for you to come and see some of Dallas' most talented hippy chicks get their shimmy on!

The grand opening was March 10, and for now, there will be nightly shows at 8:30pm (show times here are subject to change in the future, so stay tuned for updates). AA Addison is open 7 days a week, so come on down, enjoy some delicious Lebanese food, and support your local belly dancer!

AA Addison is located at 3885 Belt Line Road, Addison, TX (in between Marsh and Midway Road on Belt Line). They are open for lunch and dinner, and the venue is upscale - this is a restaurant, not a nightclub.

Al Amir's Greenville Avenue location is still open, and still has dancing - regular dance times for AA Greenville are: Friday/Saturday at 8:30 and 10:30pm, and Sunday at 9:30pm, with shows by special request on Weds/Thurs nights. AA Greenville is still a disco - book your parties there if you want to get your debke on!

Brazen Bellies

Hey everyone. I wanted to let you all know that we have started a new tribal style troup called Brazen Bellies. I am crazily excited about get to dance and see everyone again! (grad school has taken me so out of the loop) We are planning our debut at the March Kismit. Veil Choreography class starts this week with Yeli in Arlington

The Intermediate/ Advanced Combos and Choreography class with Yeli at the Dance Company in Arlington will start our next choreography this Wednesday. The class is at 6:30 on Wednesdays.

Veil is the dance of choice for this class. Drum Solo will be next!

If you were looking for a time to join us, now would be the time!

Learn a new gracefull veil choreography with Yeli! There will be an opportunity to perform in the community at the conclusion of the choreography.

The choreography portion of our class is expected to last 4-6 weeks. Then we are back to new weekly combos.

This multi-level workshop will outline two tribal fusion combinations emphasizing technique and isolation. The first
combination will incorporate the building blocks of UNMATA's modern bellydance style. The second combination will focus primarily on the Hula Fusion nuance.Each movement will be outlined within a tribal cueing system so that it may be added to any troupe's choreography or tribal vocabulary. Amy will describe and drill each individual movement,then fasten them together into an accessible tribal combo that will be practiced in useful group and duet formations.
This workshop will be fun, fast, and furious. UNMATA believes in beat-your-butt technical practice, so bring water and come prepared to sweat.

This intense workshop focuses on fast! Amy will lay down the stylistic foundation and technical breakdown for UNMATA's awe-inspiring omis, ferocious shimmies, and bad-ass body pops.Each movement will include "transition-training" so it can be used alone or linked with other movements to create a short choreography. Amy's Art of Overlay is at the heart of this intermediate toadvanced bellydance workshop aimed to add expressive layers and distinction to your dance style. Although controlled simultaneous movement is a complex idea, this class provides a simple approach certain to bring impressive results.Beginning with a thorough breakdown of basic isolation technique, Amy will expand such elements as core strength and relaxed tension, and then demonstrate helpful exercises that are necessary to develop an awareness needed to isolate key muscle groups. Then she will teach and drill an isolation combo that incorporates the artistic flare unique to Amy Sigil and UNMATA.

Because this class is designed for the intermediate to advanced dancer, a sufficient understanding of balance and timing is prerequisite.
